The Ebony magazine is a monthly publication aimed at the African American market in the US. It was founded by John Johnson in 1945 and claims a readership of over 90 million. It also has a digest sized companion magazine which is known as Jet.
The cover of Ebony usually includes famous or well known African Americans, such as celebrities, politicians or even the president of the United States. The ads in the magazine are usually modified from the usual ones, to specifically include black models, to better target the audience.
